Dental Implants Have Been Around For 50 Years

May 11, 2011

Dental implants are often seen as something new.  Few people know that dental implants have been used in patients since the 1960s.  The first patients were treated with 5 implants in the front part of the lower jaw, with a hybrid prosthesis attached.  The hybrid prosthesis has made a comeback in the recent decade with the All-on-4 prosthesis.  Unlike 50 years ago, the implants are now placed and the prosthesis attached on the same day.  It is amazing that the original hybrid prosthesis has made such a big comeback.
